The heaviest traffic in a camera system runs between the cameras and the recorder, entirely inside your local network. A 16-camera 4 MP system pushes roughly 35–50 Mbps to the NVR around the clock — trivial for gigabit gear, painful on old 100 Mbps switches, and irrelevant to your internet bill.

Your internet connection only matters for remote viewing and cloud storage. Each phone watching a sub-stream consumes about 1 Mbps of upload; watching main-stream 4K remotely consumes the camera's full bitrate. On typical asymmetric business internet (fast down, slow up), upload is the constraint — check it before promising a client 4K remote playback.
